A back up of your sewer line can cause major headaches for a homeowner.  The primary cause is an old or failed service/sewer line from the house to the city-owned main pipe. Most homeowners do not realize the pipe from the house to the main line is the responsibility of the homeowner.  Failure is typically caused by tree roots growing into the line, or the pipe may decay and collapse, causing water to back up into the house.
